Charlotte recieved special recognition by the Humane Society of the United States at the VIP Cast & Crew Party on Sunday, December 4th held at the Sony Lot in Los Angeles.  

Charlotte was honored The HSUS's Animal Advocate Award for her passion and commitment to animal protection issues. In an introduction by Beverly Kaskey, she spoke to how Charlotte has demonstrated her good heart by her willingness to always speak out and use her celebrity platform for animal advocacy. Most recently, in enthusiastically lending her support to key HSUS campaigns and in particular the Great Ape protection and Cost Savings act.

The event was hosted by Hosted by Beverly Kaskey, Senior Director of The HSUS’s Hollywood office and Wayne Pacelle, CEO & President of The HSUS (both pictured below).

In a touching speech that brought tears to the audience, Charlotte honored Jane Goodall, world-renowned pioneer of the study of chimpanzee behavior.  She also paid special tribute to Gretchen Wyler, and shared a touching story of the last day they spent together before Gretchen passed way.  Charlotte also shared the portrait that Gretchen left her of Jane Goodall hugging a chained chimp in captivity, which was signed by both the artist and Jane (pictured below).

Charlotte spoke about Gretchen's lifelong passion for animal rights, and the last day they spent together horesback riding before her untimely death to breast cancer in 2007.  Gretchen founded the Genesis Awards in 1986, and served as Vice President of the Humane Society Of The United States.
